Re:Arranged Muslim Cultures Illuminated

Zanbeel partnered with The Doris Duke Foundation to produce "Grand Performances Signature Series: Muslim Culture Decoded and Demystified", showcasing South East and Central Asian Muslim artists from mainstream pop-stars to revered traditional masters. This two-year initiative included immersive and educational exchanges with L.A. musicians, students and community members.

Devotional Music Workshop & Workbook

Our staff created a booklet with resources highlighting and describing common words in South and Central Asian Devotional Sufi music and Church hymns. Our teachers conducted classes utilizing this workbook, which also includes pictures of South and Central Asian musical instruments, as well as maps and puzzles. Students also sketched each instrument used in the Grand Performance. At the conclusion of the program, students and teachers were given a survey to measure the knowledge they gained about South Asian music, culture, regions and people. The survey concluded positive results.

"It is our hope that as you view these events, you allow both your heart and mind to deeply grasp how these programs positively impact youth and all those whose lives they touch, worldwide."

Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali Group

Qawwali is an Arabic word that means ‘utterance’ and it is the devotional music of the Sufis of Pakistan and India. When the unforgettable qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan died in Pakistan in 1997, he left a musical vacuum into which stepped his two teenage nephews. Despite their extreme youth, they were determined that their group Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali should continue their uncle’s pioneering efforts to transcend cultural, language and religious barriers and to bring to the world the devotional but vibrant Qawwali vocal music of the Sufi mystics of Islam.

Fuzön / فیوزن

Fuzön is a pop rock band from Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan formed in 2001. The name was derived from fusion, as the former lead vocalist of the band, Shafqat Amanat Ali describes the band as a fusion of urdu classical music and modern soft rock music blended with the Sufi Style of singing.  Fuzön encompasses hybrid styles of pop and rock instrumentation. "Fuzon was one of the innovative bands of the new millennium, as they gave us a timeless album like Saagar."
